Retford Patchwork and Quilting Group

Retford Patchwork and Quilting Group held their second official meeting on Wednesday 11th June, with eight members attending. All successfully completed their first RPQG Block of the Month – a gentle start with the Rail Fence pattern, which has only one tricky point to match. This was chosen because most members are new to patchwork and quilting, and some are even new to using a sewing machine.

As a new group, the aim is to attract all ages and levels of experience. At this meeting, the age range was from nine to over seventy, and only three members had previous patchwork and quilting experience. While making the blocks, the group covered a variety of techniques and practical tips, all while enjoying plenty of laughter.
The group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 6.30pm to 9.00pm at Grove Methodist Hall, Retford. From the autumn, a daytime session is planned, with details to be announced on the website.

PAT-tested extension cables, irons, ironing boards, cutting mats and rulers are provided. The cost is £5.00 per meeting, including refreshments. Young Quilters (up to age 18) attend free of charge but must be accompanied by a paying parent, grandparent or guardian.

The first meeting of each month offers an optional Block of the Month project aimed at expanding skills, but members are welcome to bring work in progress or anything they need help with. Between them, the group has a wealth of experience and is happy to help find solutions to challenges.

Members provide their own materials, and any electrical equipment brought must be PAT tested where appropriate.
