On 12th July Retford Mayflower WI had a good turnout of 22 members to hear Keith Appleyard give a fascinating talk about Bletchley Park and breaking the Enigma Code.
Keith was in the RAF during the Cold War working as an intelligence officer but did not know that the work was similar to what had been carried out at Bletchley as the place was still a secret. He gave a very informative talk. Today the site is open to the public who can view the mansion, rebuilt huts, a working replica Bombe machine and a rebuilt Colossus computer.
Some WIs choose not to have an August meeting due to summer holidays but Mayflower held a picnic evening at Stephen House with garden games. The evening gives members more of a chance to have a longer chat and enjoy good company.
On Wednesday 13th September the speaker will be Linda Wakeham who will talk about Autism and the competition is to make a worry worm. The meeting on 11th October will be the AGM with additions and, looking further in advance on 8th November Janice Holmes from Janice Rose Lingerie will be giving an informative talk. There are lots of good things to look forward to and they hope to see more visitors at Stephen House on Chapelgate at 7.30pm on the second Wednesday of each month.
