Retford Mayflower WI

Following the final ease of lockdown restrictions, Mayflower WI has enjoyed a busy few months catching up with members and welcoming new ones.

January saw members busily making ‘green hearts’ to display outside Bassetlaw Museum. The display was installed on a very cold, wet 13th February and represents the WI’s involvement with the Climate Coalition for a greener future for our planet.
At the February meeting the WI learned all about the evacuation of children from Czechoslovakia on the Kinder Transport during WWII, and in March had a relaxing yoga class with Kirstin. It is rumoured that more than one member snoozed!

In early April nine members took part in a litter-pick to help keep the town centre clean and, thanks to Retford Lions, WI members had CPR and defibrillator training at their monthly meeting.

Charter Day on 2nd May will see members once again running the Buttermarket café – lots of bacon rolls and, of course, cake.
The WI meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm at Stephen House, Chapelgate and all guests are welcomed with open arms. This is a fun, lively group of ladies of all ages. The first meeting is free to attend, though please note that the May meeting is members-only as it is the group’s fifth birthday and special treats are planned.

There are also regular informal ‘craft’ evenings at Morrisons café at 7.00pm on the fourth Wednesday of each month. It is a ‘knit, sew, crochet, draw and natter’ time and non-members are very welcome to drop in.

Future planned events include a talk on Japan, a summer picnic, a group visit to the recycling centre in Mansfield and some very interesting speakers.

The ladies would love to meet you so go along to say hello.
