Retford Little Theatre’s next play will be the amateur premiere of Kill Thy Neighbour, a dramatic comedy by Lucie Lovatt.
If the writer’s name is familiar it’s because in her teens she was a pupil at Retford’s King Edward VI School – and her parents still live in the town.
From here, Lucie went on to forge a career in professional theatre on the production side of several major West End theatres, working with theatrical giants.
Having thoroughly acquainted herself with theatre from the inside, she fulfilled her ambition to write for the stage. Kill Thy Neighbour is her first play. It received its professional premiere less than a year ago at the Theatr Clwyd in Wales and was reviewed by the national daily newspapers, earning three- and four-star praise.
The play is set in a picture perfect Welsh seaside village where most of the houses have been sold to incomers looking for holiday homes. Village life is almost destroyed and the remaining residents have to decide whether to sell or stay. Lucie finds comedy in this real life drama and also weaves in elements of the mystery thriller.
The Little Theatre is delighted to have the opportunity to present the amateur premiere, not least because the producer will be Stephen Walker who taught Lucie when she was at school in Retford. Performances run from 24th to 29th March with booking for non-members starting on 19th March.
