Charter Day is scheduled for Monday 6th May and we are usually lucky to get good weather for the Bank Holiday; here’s hoping! Retford Lions Club are still selling Corporate Red Ducks — see the centre spread of adverts in this issue and article about this event. Although all available adverts were sold earlier by some very energetic and active Lion members; it will be possible to sponsor a Red Duck and thus win £1,000 for your nominated charity up until the race start!
Major raffle prize finally presented
Despite last September’s Motorshow being abandoned due to weather, the raffle went ahead. The prize of hospitality day tickets for this year’s British Touring Car Championship, held at Donnington Park, was recently presented by Lion Tony Speed.
Healthy Eating Group at Ordsall Junior School
Lions are cooperating with a group of mums at Ordsall Primary School to ensure wholesome meals can be easily and economically produced for their families. This is a collaborative project initiated by the school and supported by Everyone Health and Bassetlaw District Council, to promote healthy living and eating. The venue is a building available in the school grounds and aims to provide recipes and coaching to mums who may benefit.
Two Defibrillator training days have taken place. One for 32 pupils and four staff at Thrumpton School and also two sessions at Retford Town Hall, when 25 persons benefited.
Retford Lions Club are helping to arrange and finance diabetes screening sessions in Retford Town Hall on 22nd June. Fliers with details will be available for the public at the stall selling Yellow Ducks on Saturday 4th May prior to Charter Day.
