When Lion Stan Foster organised a social event for the Retford club, it turned out to be not quite what everyone expected.
Afternoon tea was on the menu with a mystery surprise, which was soon revealed as a set of steel drums appeared. With everyone waiting with bated breath for the expected concert, it was revealed that the performers were actually the Lions present! Much fun ensued, with some members surprised at their newfound talents.
July brings two important events in the Lions calendar: The Ted Waterfield Memorial Golf tournament at Retford Golf Club and the annual Charter Lunch at the West Retford Hotel.
The ever-popular Golf Day takes place on 5th July with players coming from near and far. Holes are sponsored by local companies together with extra items such as ‘Nearest the pin’, etc.
Sunday 2nd July sees the Lions Charter lunch, where the main event is the changeover of the President. Incoming President Margaret Campbell will replace current President Philip Moult. The club would like to thank West Retford Hotel for its continued support.
Retford Lions will be sponsoring a day of sailing for school children at Daneshill reserve, and are finalising entries for the Lions Peace Poster competition, which was open to all schools in the area.
Lions are also continuing their successful CPR and defibrillator training with a session at Hallcroft Methodist Church. This training is available free of charge to any local groups.
