As we all look for new economic shoots to signal a recovery, the shoots of Retford Lions Club’s hard work in the autumn are just starting to appear around Retford on verges and sites around the town to brighten up the environment. There were several new daffodil sites planted last year by members.
With a busy year to come, the Lions’ Golf Day on Wednesday 5th July is quickly gaining participants. There is still time to either enter a team or apply to sponsor a hole, please contact Retford Golf Club for information on fees for the day.
On Sunday 16th April the ever-popular Lions cycle ride will take place. Riders of all abilities are invited to an event which always attracts large numbers of riders from all parts of the country. Information can be obtained from the Lions’ Facebook page or call in to see Dominic at Bridgegate Cycles.
It now seems unlikely that Retford Charter Day will take place this year, but the Lions will carry out the annual duck race on a different weekend. It is planned for the Coronation weekend (to be confirmed) in Kings Park. More information later.
The Club’s commitment to CPR and defibrillator training resulted in a successful session on 24thJanuary at East Markham for 23 people from Bassetlaw Bulldogs RLFC. Lions offer this training free of charge to groups in the area and are hoping to be involved in the proposed allocation of defibrillator units to all primary schools, as promised by the government.
Their next fundraiser will be their Easter baskets which will be sited in local pubs and businesses as raffle prizes which can be won for just £1.00 for a square.
