When Retford Lions were asked to help with Will Brewster’s trip to Spain, to compete in the Dance World Championships, the Club had no idea how it would turn out. Imagine their surprise when they found out they had sponsored a world champion!
Will won gold in the Mini Show Dance category at the championships in San Sabastian, Spain. The Lions are immensely proud of Will’s amazing achievement; they are glad to have been able to help and wish him luck in the future.
On 3rd July at the West Retford Hotel Lions held their annual Charter lunch. The lunch commemorates the founding of the club in 1980, and is where the handover of the president takes place. Special guests included District Governor David Pope and representatives from Lions clubs in the region. Before the handover, several members were honoured to receive the highest award given by Lions Clubs International: The Melvin Jones Fellowship. The award recognises the work and dedication of members. Joining Pete Masters (awarded last year) was Shirley Scott, Margaret Campbell, John Battersby, Graham Venables and incoming President Philip Moult.
A special award was made to John Battersby and his son Dominic (proprietor of Bridgegate Cycles) and daughter Ruth, to recognise their work in organising the annual cycle ride which takes place every July and raises funds for the club.
Master of ceremonies Jim Napier then handed over to President Stan Foster to complete the handover of the chain of office to Philip.
Lions would like to thank the West Retford Hotel for hosting the club.
