The ladies of Retford Inner Wheel Club were delighted to meet at a member’s house and put together items for baby bundles and toy bags. These are given to young mothers and their babies and children at local clinics in Africa, with destinations including Zambia, Tanzania and Gambia. The baby bundles include clothes, nappies (terry towelling of course), blankets, sheets and a soft toy. Thirty-two bundles were delivered to NPAC (National Police Aid Convoy) at Mansfield where they will be included in the next container they send to Africa.
The Club was also able to deliver 37 toy bags to NPAC. These are small bags filled with toys, stationery, hairbrushes, combs and maybe a jumper, and are again Africa-bound. These toy bags are made with children of four to 11 years in mind, and it is sobering to think that the toy bag may well be the child’s only personal possession. The busy morning was convivial with a useful purpose and it was lovely to get together.
If anyone is interested in visiting Retford Inner Wheel Club you will be most welcome; the Club meets on the second Thursday of each month at Ye Olde Bell, Barnby Moor. Please get in touch via email at retfordinnerwheel@gmail.com.
