Retford Cricket Club is taking this opportunity to thank Mark and Michelle Shevill.
Mark, a passionate cricketer, inspirational coach and manager, entrepreneur and dedicated family man, and until recently the Chair of Retford Cricket Club. However, he felt it was time to relinquish that role to allow him to focus on his growing business and maturing family.
Mark’s involvement in cricket spans decades, as a player and coach. He joined Retford Cricket Club over 10 years ago when the club had only one senior team. His dedication to the sport helped build the club to where it is today with three senior teams, and a huge junior section grown from nearly nothing, with players upwards from five-years-old in five age categories. Mark also led to get the club into the women’s game. He even managed to recruit his wife, Michelle, son, Ethan, and daughter, Eleanor, to play for and support the club, alongside the other volunteers.
Michelle ably supported the club as a member of the committee, managing membership and sponsorship activities. With a huge membership including social members, Michelle took the lead organising and was always the ‘go to’ person for anyone with questions about anything and everything at the club! The club relies hugely on the support of their sponsors and Michelle worked tirelessly over the years with many local businesses to help secure funding for the club.
Mark also encouraged fundamental changes to enhance the club’s values and structure. Friday evenings became about families as well as junior cricket training. It is a place where, at the end of a busy week, families can relax and socialise over a drink and food from the BBQ. They often see upwards of 200 people enjoying a fabulously friendly Friday family atmosphere in the biggest and best beer garden in Retford.
Retford Cricket Club owes a huge debt to Mark and Michelle who are always welcome, indeed, the club enjoys seeing Ethan carrying on his father’s passion for the game as he continues to play for the club.
Mark and Michelle – thank you!
