Retford Cricket Club

Retford Cricket Club is in full swing with all teams playing in their various competitions despite the stuttery, weather-influenced start to the season. There have been lots of successes already at all levels. from the newest players in the U9s all the way up to the 1st Team. There is also a keen focus on those areas which need fine tuning and development, all with a sense of fun and in the spirit of the game at their welcoming and friendly family club.

Matches can’t take place without the support of some key appointments. Cricket officials, specifically umpires and scorers, are always sought after. Training in these roles is available both informally at the club and through ECB-run courses which can lead to formal cricket officials’ qualifications. For seniors matches, officials get paid for their time. And, of course, officials really do get the best seats in the house with uninterrupted views of the game.

The club is always looking for volunteers to support their activities. That could be helping run the bar or cooking on the BBQ, a spare pair of hands at training or simply helping to keep the club tidy.

Sadly, the end of July sees the culmination of this year’s Juniors’ competitions to make way for school summer holidays, but Seniors’ Cricket carries on. There are thoughts to continue junior training sessions and maybe hold some friendly juniors’ matches against local clubs. Details of this and all the club’s activities are advertised through social media channels. Look up Retford Cricket Club on Facebook, X (Twitter) and Instagram and you’ll be able to follow and engage with them with any questions you may have. Even better, they’d love to see you at the club enjoying the facilities and fresh air, which is open to visitors including well-behaved dogs on leads.
