Retford Cricket Club (RCC) is in full swing just over a month into their 175th anniversary season. Their four senior teams are playing regularly across the weekends, while the junior teams enjoy their matches on weekday evenings. Very rarely is the ground quiet now, with training interspersing matches.
The Women’s section is also back up and running with four softball double-header fixtures this year. An 8-a-side format played in pairs, where no one is really out, lends itself to some stiff competition but with the addition of fun, camaraderie and socialising as the team travels around the local area. While they’ve had some new recruits, there’s still plenty of room for more. So much so that the club is planning an introductory women’s softball tournament on Sunday 22nd June 2025 starting at 11.00am.
This opportunity for women and girls (from 13 years old), will take place at the RCC ground on Cricket Field Lane opposite Morrisons in the centre of Retford. The club will welcome you as individuals or ready-made teams; your team could simply be a group of social friends or a gang of lasses from your work, businesses or other groups. Don’t worry if you haven’t got a full team or if you’re on your own, that’s the fun of it –meeting new people and sharing an experience.
You’ll also get to enjoy the facilities with licenced bar and various food offerings. Oh, and you can bring your family too; RCC are known as the family club.
Members of the current women’s squad will be on hand to help you understand the game and techniques like bowling and batting. They’d love to hear from you on enquiries.retfordcricketclub@gmail.com, so they can plan for numbers (catering et al). Or if it’s a last-minute decision, just rock up on the day.
You know you want to!
