Retford Cricket Club

While the Retford Cricket Club ground is quiet, the players and volunteers are girding their loins and preparing for the 2025 season. The 2025 Committee has been voted, venues for indoor training are booked for both junior and senior teams, and fixtures lists are close to being finalised and published. With a new Senior Sunday team being raised to allow a through flow for some of the junior players to experience the senior game, the Club’s three existing teams are all excited to get back to the sound of leather on willow. Some teams will be facing new opposition as they move up into a higher division.

The Clubhouse is available for private hire for all manner of happenings. It’s a great place to hold meetings; the local residents enjoyed holding one of their meetings recently. With its own licenced bar and recently refurbished premises, the Clubhouse is also a great venue for parties to celebrate birthdays or christenings or even to raise a toast to someone recently departed.

But, back to cricket. The junior teams will start with their indoor matches in January, taking them up to Easter. They look to build on last year’s significant success when they were very close to winning all their leagues. Plans are also being drawn up to encourage more females into the sport at Retford in both hardball and softball variants of the game.

The club is inclusive and welcomes anyone to join them; it is hugely proud of the diversity of its membership. Family is also very important; hence they call themselves the Family Club. They are very much looking forward to Easter and reinvigorating their summer family Friday evenings with junior and women’s training and the opportunity to enjoy the biggest beer garden in Retford.
