Retford Community Singers’ new season

by | 31 August 2019 | Hobbies, Retford

The Retford Community Singers (RCS) will once again open their doors on Tuesday 3rd September, from 7.30pm to 9.15 pm at St Joseph’s Church Hall, Babworth Road, Retford DN22 7PB.

All are welcome, especially people who have never experienced harmony singing or who have not sung for a long time. Join in with the established group of men and women who love a good tune — no previous experience is required as everything is taught by ear. The choir is led by singer-songwriter Janet Wood, who can be inspired by dance rhythms, folk and gospel, pop songs and world music. It’s highly varied, sometimes challenging, but always uplifting! The emphasis is on singing for pleasure with occasional optional performances in the community. No need to book, just turn up and enjoy — singing is good for your health too! The cost is £4.00 per session (£2.00 if on means tested benefits) and there is plenty of parking around the church.

You can meet the Retford Community Singers on Heritage Day in Retford on Saturday 14th September, at 11.15am in the council chamber of Retford Town Hall. Choir members will be singing a selection of songs to celebrate our local industrial past, remembering the days of building railways, mining, working with horses etc. See the Heritage Day programme for more details.

Looking ahead to Tuesday 23rd November, members will have the chance to take part in the up-coming celebration of ‘Mayflower 400’, focussing on pilgrims who sailed to America from this area. This promises to be a unique and exciting event, involving actors, dancers and singers from the community, in the ballroom at Retford Town Hall.
