Retford Charter Day is back with a bang this year! On Monday 2nd May the whole of town will celebrate the granting of the Royal Charters that allowed Retford to become a thriving market town. Many of the town’s businesses and organisations will be involved, with stalls along Carolgate and Exchange Street.
In the park is the main arena and this year there are some astounding acts! There will be non-stop, thrill a minute excitement with Dangerous Steve and his amazing stunts and tricks, including fire and chain-saw juggling plus a unique one-wheeler roller motor bike! The Sherwood Outlaws will be fighting the Sheriff of Nottingham and you can have a go at axe throwing and archery.
For those of a less thrill-seeking tendency, there will be lovely alpacas to meet, pony rides and the fabulous Flygility Dog Agility team will be demonstrating some of their moves. You could also take a cruise along the Chesterfield Canal.
The performance areas in the park and the Town Hall will be showcasing some of the area’s best talent with dance, music and theatre groups performing.
In the Market Square area there will be fun family fair rides and games, with some beautiful cars and motorbikes showcasing on Grove Street. Bassetlaw Museum and The Grove Chapel will be open. There will be a craft market in the Buttermarket under the town hall.
New this year will be an international food area and the chance to try out some new hobbies and sports as local clubs put your skills to the test.
Don’t miss the highlight of the day as the tension mounts at 3.00pm for The Retford Lions Duck Race!
