Retford Business Forum events

Retford Business Forum (RBF) has successfully delivered the Retford Christmas Market and Lights Switch-on for the last four years. It has a great team of volunteers that plan and deliver its events. It is now enlarging its schedule of events.

This year’s Retford Christmas Market and Lights Switch-on will take place on Sunday 1st December. It will be a great day — please put the date in your calendar now. In addition to this, a series of ‘Sunday on the Square’ days are in the early stages of being planned for Retford in 2019:

  • Sunday 28th April — St George’s Day (organised by the Friends of St George)
  • Sunday 26th May — Square Fete Day — traditional English village fair
  • Sunday 30th June — Square Wheels Day – cars and motorbikes galore
  • Sunday 28th July — Square Deal Day — open day for charities, community groups, and not-for-profit organisations
  • Sunday 25th August — Party in the Square* — spectacular entertainment (organised by North Notts BID) [*working title]

Retford Business Forum is only able to deliver this programme through its volunteers and by the generous support of the North Notts BID, Bassetlaw District Council and other local companies and community groups. Retford Business Forum is always looking forward to welcoming new volunteers, whatever level of support they can give.

Rick Brand, Chair of Retford Business Forum, said that 2019 will be an exciting year for the Forum, Retford, and the surrounding villages. There will be many opportunities ahead to support the people and the businesses of the area, to attract and encourage new enterprises, to fill empty shops in the town, to improve the range of transport options and their usage, and to continue to develop and provide events, facilities and promotions as reasons to visit the town.
Having supported the Mayflower Pilgrims activities in the past, The Forum will continue to work with Bassetlaw Christian Heritage, North Notts BID and Bassetlaw District Council to increase awareness of this world-relevant local story, with benefits for the people of the area, and its economy. This year’s Pilgrims Festival is currently being planned, including parades and events, an arts exhibition, and Thanksgiving Dinner.

Partnership is a key approach for Retford Business Forum, already working with the major community groups in and around Retford. New members are always welcome and one of the objectives for this year is to encourage even more businesses and groups to join, and participate, in the Forum. Meetings are held on the first Monday in each month (except bank holidays) at 5.30pm for 6.00pm, in the Council Chamber, Retford Town Hall. Retford Business Forum relies on its members, sponsors and grants, and is not regularly funded by any organisation. To find out more email chair@retfordbusinessforum.org.uk.
