Retford Bowling Green opened for the season in early April as planned, with one of the first major matches being the delayed Club Championship – a contest postponed from the previous season.
The Club Championship sees the winners of the men’s and ladies’ four-bowl knockout competitions face off in a final play-off. This year brought an unexpected and entertaining twist, as the finalists were husband and wife duo, Fred and Sue Mills.
With the early spring heatwave providing ideal conditions, spectators were treated to an enjoyable match filled with good-humoured banter. In the end, Fred emerged victorious, claiming the Dacey Routledge Trophy and the title of Club Champion.
