Heritage Day at Retford Arts Hub was once again well supported. This year’s theme of Architecture inspired volunteers to attempt the first installation for the Upstairs Gallery – a model of Retford Town Hall created out of waste materials in just three hours. It was quite a challenge but also a lot of fun, and the end result was a triumph.
Volunteering at the Hub offers many opportunities to try something new and to be part of a friendly, supportive group. It can be both enriching and enjoyable. Whether you are interested in arts and crafts or simply like meeting people, this could be the perfect opportunity to join the team. You can volunteer for just a few hours a week or more frequently if you wish.
October will be another busy month. A new exhibition in the Upstairs Gallery, Flora and Fauna, opens on Friday 3rd October and runs until Friday 14th November. The Kids Club for 7–11 year olds resumes on Saturday 11th October with an autumn theme. All materials are provided, and children take home their finished artwork. Places fill up quickly, so early booking is recommended. Please note there will be no session on Saturday 25th October due to half term.
For older children aged 12–16, funding from the UK Government and Bassetlaw District Council is enabling the Hub to offer a free photography workshop on how to use a digital SLR camera, led by a professional photographer.
For more information or to book any of the workshops, call 01777 860414, email info@retfordartshub.com, or pop into the Hub. If you are interested in volunteering, why not drop in for a coffee and see what it is all about? Retford Arts Hub is located opposite the cannon in Cannon Square, and everyone is assured of a warm welcome.
