Retford Arts Hub’s Upstairs Gallery is currently hosting a new exhibition titled ‘My Favourite Place’. The theme has inspired a range of artworks, from depictions of Croatia, Scotland, and Holy Island, to more personal interpretations such as a favourite bedroom. It’s well worth a visit, especially for those interested in purchasing original artwork at a very reasonable price. Several workshops are scheduled for August and September. On Monday 4th August, from 10.30am to 1.00pm, Melanie Eldred will lead a workshop on creating mosaic glass coasters. The session costs £30.00 and includes all materials.

On Thursday 4th September, John Redfearn Harris will host a watercolour workshop for beginners and improvers, focusing on painting a waterfall in a landscape. For those interested in trying oils, a further workshop will take place on Thursday 11th September, exploring the Derbyshire landscape. Both sessions run from 10.30am to 1.30pm and cost £25.00 each, with all materials provided. The Hub is also home to seven studios where resident artists can work in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. One such artist is Lesley Pearson, who joined the community in 2022. Lesley finds inspiration in her time travelling the canals and rivers of England. Her artwork, often featuring wildlife such as kingfishers, voles, geese, frogs and birds, is delicately illustrated using watercolours and ink, and appears on both greeting cards and canal maps.

Recently, Lesley has begun exploring pottery. Her platters and jewellery also reflect her love of nature, while her quirky creations – including miniature houses and faces – make charming gifts. Anyone interested in renting a studio at the Hub, joining a workshop, volunteering, or becoming a member is encouraged to call 01777 860414 or email info@retfordartshub.com.
