A comprehensive programme of events is again being staged by Retford Art Society this year. Kindly hosted by Bassetlaw Museum, the society’s first exhibition ‘Human Form of Art’ has been well received. The spring exhibition will be held in St Swithun’s Church, Retford, from 27th April to 13th May every Thursday (from 11.00am to 4.00pm) and Friday and Saturday (from 10.00am to 4.00pm). This display also features work by Ranby Primary School students and a small retrospective exhibition of work, by our long-standing member Harold Rickells who died recently. Entry is free and everyone is welcome.
Peter Millward recently demonstrated the amazing technique of Chinese Brush Painting and explained the links between the art work and calligraphy. On 27th April, Dr Maureen Ille gave a slide show talk on ‘Art and Illusion’ and on 25th May, Tim Fisher will demonstrate ‘Seascape in Oil and Pastel’. These events are open to all and take place at the Post 16 Centre from 7.20pm.
The society’s ever-popular day workshops started with Graham Laughton teaching how to produce dramatic still life oil paintings. Beginners to experts are all welcome to join the next workshop ‘Using Acrylics’, which will be held on 10th June and will be taken by Julian Bray.
