Retford Art Society is in hibernation this month, but life drawing sessions will resume in February, starting on Wednesday 8th February in the Swan Studio at the usual time of 7.00pm to 9.00pm. The final session of 2024 was attended by 13 people, and despite the chilly weather, long-term model Fleur provided some wonderful poses.
Afternoon and evening painting sessions are also planned to restart in February. Please check the February update for confirmation.
The Goodison Prize for the most popular painting in the autumn exhibition, as voted by visitors, was awarded to Robert Bealby. Before retirement, Robert was a graphic designer with the Metal Box Company, and his beautiful Blue Landscape captured the hearts of many.
The year concluded with a lively demonstration of impressionist design by Graham Langhton. It was an engaging and playful evening that encouraged experimentation with colour and creativity. Graham began with an unusual prompt – a print of an upside-down coffee cup and a photo of a Christmas cactus – encouraging attendees to let their imaginations lead the way. From slumbering faces to racing hares and even flying saucers bursting through honeysuckle hedges, the results were delightfully diverse. There are hopes for Graham to lead a workshop later this year.
