The Retford Art Society Autumn Exhibition is in full swing until Saturday 9th November. Several paintings have a round red sticker, indicating that they are already sold, and the Grove Street Methodist Chapel has been busy with visitors and admirers of the amazing art that pops up in this local community.
The society has one more evening event this year: Graham Laughton will demonstrate the art of painting flowers and fruit using modern techniques. This event will be full of helpful tips for those who enjoy new things. The demonstration will take place in the Swan Studio on Thursday 28th November, from 7.00pm to 9.00pm, and costs £7.00 for non-members. Book through walkerjilly@outlook.com or 01777 248285.
In September, the demonstration on encaustic art with Brian Nelson was great fun. Attendees watched in awe as he used coloured wax on a hot iron to create a painting. Participants were then allowed to try their hand at it, creating beautiful glowing colours that flowed across their cards.
Life drawing sessions will continue in the Swan Studio, with sessions scheduled for Wednesday 6th November, and Wednesday 20th November, from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. The cost for non-members is £7.00.
The Swan Studio, located at the bottom of Carolgate over the bike shop, is open as usual for communal painting on Tuesday evenings from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and Friday afternoons from 2.00pm to 4.00pm at no cost. Newcomers are welcome, and the society looks forward to supporting and encouraging them.
