Retford and District Lifesaving Club had a successful weekend in March, after travelling across the country to Liverpool Aquatics Centre in the late winter snow to compete in the RLSS UK’s National Speed Championships 2023.
The National Speed Championships are the largest competition of its kind in the UK, which sees lifesaving athletes aged 12 and upwards from across the UK and Ireland competing for national titles in what is the only sport that has a humanitarian foundation.
The team took part in events such as individual Line Throws, Manikin Carry, Manikin Tows as well as relay team events. They were successful in their events, claiming new personal best times.
The club overall came 9th out of 23 clubs taking part in the event, coming away with three gold, 10 silver and four bronze medals.
