The next meeting of Retford and District Historical and Archaeological Society will be held on Wednesday 8th October. The subject is Nottingham to Waterloo, presented by Michael Kirkby, author of Nottingham versus Napoleon. He has researched the military careers of local men recruited in the 19th century to the two main Nottinghamshire regiments, the 45th and 59th.

During the war with Napoleonic France, these regiments fought in Portugal, Spain and Holland. The local men who served had extraordinary experiences and made major contributions to Wellington’s eventual victory at Waterloo.
The talk will begin at 7.00pm in the Sanctuary at Grove Street Methodist Chapel, Retford. New members are very welcome. Annual membership, starting in September, is £10.00 and covers all nine meetings up to May 2026. Non-members are charged £3.00 per meeting.
