The next Retford and District Historical and Archaeological Society meeting is on Wednesday 10th April, when Mark Dawson will present ‘A Saucy Tale – The History of Henderson’s Relish’.
The sauce was developed in the late 19th century in a grocery shop to pep up stodgy and unappetising food. In the 20th century there were struggles adapting to a changing world and it nearly disappeared, but the sauce has survived and now has celebrity endorsements. Current production is in a state-of-the-art factory.
The meeting starts at 7.30pm in the Chapelgate Hall situated behind Grove Street Methodist Church. All are welcome, non-members £3.00.
The AGM will be held on 8th May and will include a talk by Derek Turner entitled ‘History of the Retford Civic Society’.
