At the meeting of Retford and District Historical and Archaeological Society on Wednesday 10th January, Angus Townley with speak on the ‘Drainage of the Isle of Axholme’.

The ancient Isle of Axholme is situated in the northwest corner of Lincolnshire and was surrounded by rivers. The area regularly flooded until 1626-1629 when it was drained by a massive civil engineering project undertaken by Cornelius Vermuyden for King Charles I.

Do join the Society at 7.30pm in the Chapelgate Hall situated behind Grove Street Methodist Church. Admission for non-members is £3.00.
