Retford and District Historical and Archaeological Society’s lecture programme for 2023-24 starts on Wednesday 13th September with a talk by Sam Millard on The Rufford Poachers. Go and learn about the circumstances and consequences of a clash in the 1850s between gamekeepers and local workers on the hunt for food.
The meeting starts at 7.30pm in Chapelgate Hall, situated behind Grove Street Methodist Church.
The meeting on 11th October is by Maggy Watkins on Katherine Swynford – The Scandalous Duchess. New members are welcome and can join the Society in September for an annual subscription £10.00 for nine lectures. Visitors are charged £3.00 per meeting.
All meetings are on the second Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm.
