Retford and District Historical and Archaeological Society

The Retford and District Historical and Archaeological Society holds monthly talks themed on local history and organises history-themed visits (in June / July). Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month, September to May, at 7.30pm in the Chapelgate Hall situated behind Grove Street Methodist Church. Membership is £10.00 for a full year, and new members are always welcome.

The 2022-23 season begins on 14th September with a talk by Jean Townsend entitled ‘The Last Laugh – A Humorous Look at Epitaphs’. This is followed on 12th October with David Skillen talking on ‘The Many Behind the Few – Unsung Heroes and Heroines of the Battle of Britain’. On 9th November, Daryl Garton speaks on ‘Essential Skills for an Ice-Age Journey’ and on 14th December, Celia Lord will be speaking on ‘‘Tis the Season to be Jolly’.
