Although the winter months are upon us it doesn’t mean that there is nothing happening with the Rufford Avenue Allotment Group down on Plot 51 in Ordsall.

The Group has been busy laying a base for the new shed and then erecting the shed on its arrival. Just a few finishing touches and a lick of ‘ducksback’ (wood protector finish) and the shed will provide an ideal area in which to shelter, make a brew and chat when the weather isn’t so kind.

The Group was able to purchase the shed after a generous donation of £850 from Retford Rotary Club. Many thanks to them for their support!

The Allotment Group is hoping to get members of the Rotary Club down to the plot for an official handover very soon (watch this space).

In more good news, the Group has been successful with an application to the Food Insecurity Network and has been awarded £1,100 for the purchase of a polytunnel, insurance, and a launch event in the spring.

The Group is continuing to meet every Wednesday at 10.00am to 1.00pm while the weather is suitable, but may take a few weeks’ break in the New Year.
