Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust have launched a fundraising appeal to develop memorial ‘Rainbow Gardens’ at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital in memory of all the local people who have sadly lost their life to COVID-19, including their beloved colleagues Kevin Smith and Dr Medhat Atalla.
The gardens be created in their honour and will be dedicated spaces for families and colleagues to visit, a calm and peaceful place, to remember those loved ones we have lost.
The trust are asking the people of Doncaster and Bassetlaw for their support in helping to raise:

  • £25k to create a garden at DRI and Bassetlaw Hospital sites
  • Another £5k to commission the materials to create a memorial at DRI for lost colleagues
  • Another £5k to purchase additional tables and benches to be located across all sites for patients and staff to enjoy

However, there is no limit and whatever they raise will be used to make the hospitals better places to be. To support the Rainbow Gardens appeal you can donate on the JustGiving page or call the fundraising team on 01302 644244.
At Bassetlaw Hospital, the garden will be near the Children’s Observation Unit, towards the rear of the site. Currently, this space is grassed and unused. The aim is to transform this into a beautiful memorial garden. At DRI, the site is near the Fracture Clinic, overlooking the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Currently, this space is also just grassed and unused.
