It seems no time since Retford and District Photographic Society members enjoyed the final meeting of the last season, thinking how far away September seemed. Now plans are well advanced for the opening of the club’s 2025–2026 season, which begins on Monday 1st September.
The first meeting will be an introductory night when details of what the programme for the coming season has to offer will be revealed. As usual, there will be a good mix of speakers, presentations by members and competitions with the occasional practical opportunity. One of the annual competitions has a theme, and this year it will be ‘Reflections’. Members have submitted some excellent shots of this type in the past, so expectations are high. There is also a new event – an evening with Bolsover club’s members in each half of the programme. They will send a presenter to Retford to show some of their work in October and the Retford club will reciprocate in March.
On their second evening back together they will welcome Chris Newham with a presentation based on his digital images from the Faroe Islands. In October, Jim Price and Fred will be taking some prints. They were good fun on their previous visit, so this is one not to miss. The annual subscription cost is remaining at last year’s price and current members are asked attend with their payment ready in an envelope marked with their name and membership number.
The first evening is an excellent time for anyone thinking of giving the club a try to go along. It will give a good idea of what the year ahead will hold and visitors will have an opportunity to meet members returning for another season. Visitors pay only the guest fee and can attend on three occasions before committing to paying to become a member. Previous members who have taken a break will be very warmly welcomed back.
The meeting begins at 7.30pm and everyone is asked to arrive a little before that as the signing in desk will be busy. The club meets at St Joseph’s Hall, Babworth Road, Retford at 7.30pm every Monday and, apart from the seasonal break in mid-season, there will be a meeting every Monday until the end of April 2026. The website http://www.retford-photographic.co.uk gives information about the club and will soon give details of the new programme. Please check it as the start of the season approaches.
