On Saturday 29th April, at St Saviour’s Community Centre in Retford, Pies, Peas and Performances will host a special event to launch a brand new poetry collection and a new album from local Retford poet Paul Cookson – The Man Who Launched a Thousand Poems and I’ll Be Bernie, You Be Elton.
When lockdown began, Paul started writing a poem every day and sharing them on social media. These were later published by Flapjack Press in four collections. When Paul reached 1,000 poems, Flapjack published two hardback volumes of 500 poems each.
Paul will be reading poems from his collection. The event is free and the books will be on sale.
In the evening there is another special launch event for the album I’ll Be Bernie, You Be Elton. This is an album of songs written by Paul and a variety of artists including Miles Hunt (The Wonder Stuff), Stan Cullimore (The Housemartins), Don Powell (Slade) and many more.
During the evening a variety of musical guests will perform songs from the album as well as playing some of their own songs. Enjoy Pies and Peas favourites Les Glover, Darren Poyzer, Helen Turner, Mick Shepherd, The Amber List and Nigel Stonier in what promises to be a special night.
The evening performance is £15.00 a ticket (to include Pie and Peas), with doors and pies at 6.30pm and the show to begin at 7.15pm.
Tickets are available from Wonderland Bookshop or www.wegottickets.com.
Bring your own drinks – plus any contributions for the Bassetlaw Food Bank.
