Derick Scott will be the speaker at the last indoor meeting of the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust – North Notts Local Group’s season, on Thursday 13th April at 7.15pm.
Derick is a zoologist, author, and writer, and for 24 years was Country Diarist for the Morning Telegraph. He has devoted much of his life to studying owls and, at times, has paid a high price for his interest!
He recalls some less-than-friendly encounters with his favourite birds. Having spent a lifetime studying owls and their habits, it’s hardly surprising that Derick should occasionally come up against one that resents his interest and decides to let him know about it in no uncertain terms. From the aptly named Little Owl to the enormous Ural Owl, they are all capable of inflicting serious damage.
Fortunately, Derick survived to tell the tales of his global travels and his encounters with some of the less friendly natives. No one is better qualified than he to guide members through an evening with owls in their various forms and moods.
The talk costs £3.00 entry, to include tea and biscuits. All welcome; no need to book. The meeting includes a brief AGM.
