Ordsall makes plans

by | 12 July 2020 | Community Event, Retford

Back by popular demand – the ‘Ancient’ Ordsall Parish Scarecrow Festival. We all need something to look forward to and so this September the ever popular scarecrow festival will return. It will be held on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September.

COVID-19 may mean some slight adaptations to the usual way the organisers do things, but they are looking forward to seeing as many scarecrows as possible scattered across Ordsall – and hope to see the fun spread far and wide, including over the railway and canal into parts of Retford.

Registration opens on 1st July and will close on 1st August. This gives you a whole month to get your scarecrow entered onto the maps and so be in with a chance of being this year’s scarecrow champion. It is online entries only, and any enquiries to allhallowsordsall@hotmail.co.uk.

Looking ahead
Get your diaries out for 2021! One of the big events of the year, when hopefully plans do not have to be cancelled, will be Ordsall’s Summer Garden Party now planned to be held in Ordsall House grounds on 10th July 2021. Always a popular event for families to have an enjoyable afternoon relaxing in the beautiful grounds.

If you have greatly missed the artistes who were booked to entertain in the Parish Hall in the last two months, you’ll be glad to know that the Live & Local shows in Ordsall Parish Hall should be up and running again next year. Live & Local are, of course, keen to get the musicians and entertainers back on the road as soon as it is possible. There have been a range of entertainers keeping going with live streamed events from their own homes which many have found very heartening. It may be possible that some events can be held around autumn this year bearing social distancing in mind.
