Oh I do like to be by the seaside…

A special corner can be created in the garden as a holiday memory. This was the inspiration behind Retford Textile Group’s make this month – pennant bunting flags.

  • Make a paper template and cut cotton fabric to size (allowing a seam allowance of 1.25cm). Always use recycled fabrics whenever possible. If the cotton is thin in weight using a hot iron with interfacing will help.
  • Try printing onto the material using fabric paints or acrylic paints to make your pennants totally original. We have used a range of shells and a cork to give that seaside feel. Fabric pens are really useful for enhancing designs. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to fix the paints / pens using a hot iron.
  • String the triangles together by stitching them to a length of bias tape.

Individual pennants flags would make lovely presents for grandchildren to take on seaside day trips when sand castling. Special alphabet printing sets could also be used to print their names on individualised pennant flags.
