The Dukeries Woodturning Society’s move to the Jubilee Hall, Ollerton has proven to be a huge success. New members have joined to swell the numbers and they have discovered how interesting the demonstrators are, especially with more room to sit comfortably, an unobstructed view of the lathe and a great system to enable everyone to have a turner’s eye view. The society’s two camera video system lets us show close ups of the work in progress on a screen, so everyone has a view as good as, or better than, the turner’s. Refreshments are available in the break and give members an opportunity to get to know one another.
There is still plenty of room for more members and the society welcomes people of all ages and levels of experience with an interest in this fascinating craft. Your first visit is free and after you have joined it, costs just £5.00 a time. This includes the practical demonstration by a professional turner, some of whom come from considerable distances to help members improve their skills, and refreshments.
There are stalls selling most things a turner might need from wood to tools and products for finishing your work. New members and first time visitors are welcome at any time. The group has two more meetings in 2018. In October Richard Findley will be demonstrating and Steve Wright, a well-respected local wood supplier, will be on hand with wood for sale. The final meeting of the year takes place in November when Gerry Marlow will be demonstrating. Due to the move of meetings to the fourth Wednesday of the month, there will be no December social as this would be on Boxing Day, and the organisers think members will have social events of their own!
You are welcome to join the society any month at The Jubilee Hall, Wellow Road, Ollerton on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7.00pm. For more information see www.dukerieswoodturning.org.uk.
