Brought to you by the NODA award winning Retford Amateur Operatic Society, My Fair Lady is the well-loved stage and screen musical based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion, with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe.
The society will take to the stage at Retford Majestic Theatre from Wednesday 9th to Saturday 12th May at 7.30pm, and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
Meet Eliza Doolittle, a West End flower girl, who has aspirations to work in a flower shop. However, her strong Cockney accent means this is not achievable. The pompous Professor Henry Higgins is so sure of his linguistic skills that he accepts a bet with new friend Colonel Pickering to transform a lowly working-class girl into someone who can pass for a cultured member of high society. After their chance encounter at Covent Garden, Eliza asks Higgins for elocution lessons so that she may pass as a lady and get the job of her dreams. Higgins and Eliza initially clash, but gradually form an unlikely bond. Will Higgins succeed in winning his bet? Will Eliza become a shop owner?
