Museums of Tuxford

As Valentine’s Day approaches, the Museums of Tuxford have been reflecting on the past and looking ahead to the year’s activities. Inspired by objects at the Walks of Life Museum, including books, the team discovered a gem from Wilcox on Love: “Love is the centre and circumference, the impulse which directs the world.” Love manifests in many forms—be it for people, places, hobbies, or experiences. Objects given as gifts often create cherished memories, and while it can be hard to part with these items, passing them on can bring joy to others who will treasure them anew.

The Museum of the Horse is organising an online timed auction on Sunday 9th March to raise funds and make space for new exhibits. This auction will include many non-horse-related items, and submissions are welcome. Entries must be submitted by Thursday 20th February.

The auction catalogue will be available to view online at the-saleroom.com from Saturday 1st March. In-person viewing is available at the museum’s new conference room on Friday 7th March from 10.00am to 4.00pm and Saturday 8th March from 10.00am to 12.00pm.

The auction starts at 5.00pm on Sunday 9th March, with lots closing at 30-second intervals from 5.00pm onwards. For those who prefer not to bid online, contact the curator at curator@museumofthehorse.co.uk or call 01777 838234.

At the Walks of Life Museum, work is underway to create poppy nets for display around the town for VE Day. A knitting session will be held on Tuesday 18th February from 11.00am to 3.00pm in the cabin. Everyone is welcome to join in.

Restoration continues on the museum’s old house, with support from Conservation Officer Jason, who is providing training opportunities alongside the efforts of dedicated volunteers.

For those planning to attend the Dosco reunion, please note the corrected date: Wednesday 26th March (not Thursday 27th).

For further details, contact Diane at 01777 872776 or email dianehunt08@btinternet.com for opening times and additional information.

Keep an eye out for things that bring joy, like meeting friends or discovering new stories at the Museums of Tuxford!
