Morton Ballroom Afternoon Tea Dance Group

The most recent dance for the Morton Ballroom Afternoon Tea Dance Group was held on Thursday 28th July and was well attended by dancers.

There was the usual enthusiasm for the dances, but the hot weather took its toll on the length for which individuals could dance. But that enabled the group to chat – this being the other factor which keeps dancers returning month after month. The group is very friendly and anyone going for the first time will soon see why the dances have been running for 17 years!

Shades of the Blackpool Tower Ballroom were evident in the first hour of the dance as dancing was mainly to organ music a la Tower! No disappearing organ at Morton though. Many participants have visited Blackpool to dance in the Tower Ballroom and all have thoroughly enjoyed the famous dance floor.

The second half was danced mainly to Joe Loss, a completely different style of music, which makes the dances so varied through the year. This half had a jive and there was an impromptu partnership featuring one of the older participants of the dances – 86-year-old John who showed much younger people how to jive!

The Morton Ballroom Afternoon Tea Dance takes place in Morton Village Hall from 2.00pm to 4.30pm. Dancing is to CDs and is mostly Ballroom and Latin with some Sequence and Old-Time dances included.

All are welcome to join this informal group and participate for a dance fee of £5.00 per person. This includes a cup of tea / coffee and biscuit (or two) during the 20-minute interval, which also includes a raffle draw.

The dates for future dances are: 22nd September, 20th October, 17th November and 15th December (Christmas Dance).
