After a three-week respite, Scott Stone was racing again mid-August at Cadwell Park in Round 6 of the NLR Premier 1000 Championship. Track conditions were perfect and Scott qualified first in Class and seventh on the combined Grid. He made a good start in Race 1, kept a fast pace, which included a new Personal Best lap time of 1 min, 33.1 secs, to take the Class win and finished fifth overall.
In Race 2, from eighth on the Grid, Scott recorded a new Personal Best of 1 min, 32.4 secs but Scott had to settle for second place in both Race 2 and Race 3. At the end of August, Round 7 was contested at Oulton Park in Cheshire. The weather had changed and every practice session saw varying track conditions. Scott qualified second in Class and 11th on the combined Grid, which included several National Superstock riders. Championship rival Wilf Turner was three places ahead of Scott on the Grid for Race 1, and with most of the track dried out, the pace was quick. Scott passed riders to get behind Wilf, who then managed to get past another rider and pulled away. On the last lap, Scott overtook the rider between them and closed up on Wilf, but had to settle for second place by 0.8 secs. Brilliant, close racing.
In the afternoon, steady drizzle and then heavier rain made the track treacherous. A succession of falls causing serious injuries put so much pressure on the medical team that the meeting had to be abandoned. All in all, and despite finishing behind Wilf Turner too many times, Scott has thoroughly enjoyed his racing in August. He has consistently ridden quicker and, he and his team, have improved the handling of the AMCO Yamaha R1 to achieve this. As always, Scott thanks his tireless helpers, sponsors and supporters.
