Memories of work in Retford: could you help Retford Civic Society?

by | 8 March 2019 | Heritage, Retford

As part of planning for Retford Heritage Day (14th September), Retford Civic Society would like to hear from people who worked in our town in large firms that are now closed. Big firms used to employ many people in Retford, for instance Jenkins, British Ropes (Bridon Wire), Clarks Dyeworks, Spicers Boardmills, Northern Rubber and Meritina.
The experiences of the many people who worked in these firms are important and should not be lost. The society would like to record memories of working in them. These firms are just a starting point — there were lots of other employers as well.

They are interested in all sorts of memories — photographs, things published by the firms and other items. You might like to write down your memories or talk to them about them — whatever is best for you is good for them.

If you worked in one of these firms or have family, friends or neighbours who did so, Retford Civic Society would very much like to hear from you. Please get in touch with Pat Barnett by calling 01777 704154 or email patricia.barnett@talk.21.com. Alternatively, contact Retford Civic Society by email to rcs@retfordcivicsociety.org.uk.
