Twenty-five Bassetlaw Swim Squad members representing their community clubs, (Bircotes Swimming Club, Retford Swimming Club and Worksop Dolphins), finished the first training cycle off in style in early December by achieving a mammoth haul of 48 medals from 101 top 10 places.

A total of 19 gold, 13 silver and 16 bronze medals are the rewards for the tremendous hard work the swimmers have put in since September.

Stand out swimmers were Lucy Gratton (Worksop) for her 200m Freestyle, Isabella Hobson-Corbett (Retford) for her 400m Individual Medley, Marija Romanovskaja (Retford) and Thomas Johnstone (Retford) for their 100m Freestyle. All four showed superior race skills, commitment and strong race strategies to allow them an opportunity to achieve lifetime bests performances and four gold medals.

Head of Performance Swimming, Michael Glossop said: “When you strive for excellence, results will follow. The coaching team and I are hugely impressed with the swimmers’ desire to continuously improve themselves as people, not just athletes. The commitment to the process of progression is incredible and their standard of race skill delivery is like a football team having a huge goal-difference advantage. I feel like we are pushing to be compete in the premier league. A massive well done and thank you to all those involved. Here’s to a strong 2018, Happy New Year!”
