If you’re wondering what or where Markham Clinton is, it is the Parish of three villages of West Markham, Milton and Bevercotes just near to the A1 at Markham Moor.
The area is privileged to have the ancient, historic and delightful All Saints’ Church situated in West Markham but unfortunately, as with many rural churches, it became apparent that without changes being made it could not be sustainable.
As a result of consultation and discussions between residents and the church, alterations were made to make the space more appropriate for multi-purpose use whilst still retaining the integrity of the oldest church in Nottinghamshire. And with the help of an enthusiastic team of villagers Markham Clinton Community Project was born with a new beginning for the life of their church and community.
A Parish Councillor commented: “We are totally in support of this project. Although we also have Milton Mausoleum which hosts special events, until now we haven’t had a community building where people can meet informally in the parish. This space provides a perfect opportunity to become the heart and hub of our villages where everyone can meet, socialise and enjoy themselves all year round.”
The Project has some events coming up:
- Cuppa and Cake: Saturday 11th February and Saturday 11th March, 10.30am to 12.30pm – Warm, well-attended get-togethers with cards, board games, a Book Exchange and raffle. Everyone is welcome.
- Quiz Night at ‘The Pub with No Beer’: Friday 17th February, 7.00pm – A long-awaited return of the Quiz Night, hosted by quizmaster John Lambert. Team maximum of four people; £1.00 a head, payable on the door. Soft drinks available, but bring your own booze.
