Markham Clinton Community Project

What a busy month they’ve had at All Saints Parish Church and Community Centre in West Markham, near Tuxford.

Two fascinating history walks took place, both of which were fully booked. They learned much about this beautiful church and its chequered past from local historian Adrian Gray. The area is steeped in history, and elements of the building date back to Saxon times. It has also been cited as the oldest church in the Southwell Diocese. Over the years, it has been dominated by the Dukes of Newcastle until 1824 when the Newcastles obtained a faculty to take down the church and build the Mausoleum in Milton in 1831. Fortunately, All Saints Church wasn’t demolished, and people can still enjoy this beautiful old building today.

The Church also celebrated the King’s Coronation with a pie and pea supper, attended by 26 local residents. The church looked splendid, adorned with bunting and Union Jacks, and it was a fantastic night.
The Art Club continues to be successful and always welcomes new members. It runs on Thursday mornings and is growing in popularity. They encourage everyone to look out for photos of the members’ work and possibly even an exhibition.
