July sees the return of John Robinson, Director of Music at Blackburn Cathedral, who has considerable family connections with Retford, to give an organ recital at St Swithun’s Church, Retford. His father was born and raised there, his grandparents were married in Grove Street Chapel, and John himself lived in Cobwell Road for the first few years of his life, making him a true Retfordian.
As with all recitalists, his previous programmes have been well received, being both wide-ranging and demonstrating the versatility of this fine instrument. This year’s programme includes music by Buxtehude, Schumann, Widor, Bruhns, and Vierne. The recital, on Thursday 17th July, will start at 1.00pm and last for about an hour.
Admission is free, as always, but donations are welcomed to help keep the organ in top condition. Light lunches will be available from 12.15pm.
