The lunchtime organ recital for August will take place on Thursday 21st August at St Swithun’s Church in Retford, and will feature Paul Hale, the renowned expert on organ design and construction throughout the diocese. Paul holds the title of Organist Emeritus of Southwell Minster, having served as Organist and Director of Music there for 27 years. He is now in great demand as an organ consultant.

Paul has given many recitals at St Swithun’s since the inception of the Summer Series, consistently receiving enthusiastic responses for his engaging manner and broad repertoire of familiar music. This year’s programme will include works by English composers Healey Willan and Frank Bridge, as well as JS Bach’s Prelude, Minuet and Fugue in F. As a contrast, Paul will perform Sonata No. 1 by Paul Hindemith, a fellow German composer, and conclude with César Franck’s magnificent Choral No. 3 in A Minor.

The recital begins at 1.00pm and will be preceded by light refreshments from 12.15pm. Admission is free, with a voluntary retiring collection. Retford audiences are well known for their friendliness and generosity, and with only three recitals remaining in the series, it is hoped that this warm reputation will continue.
