Lunchtime Organ Recitals at St Swithun’s Church

A feast of organ music continues on Thursday 20th June at St Swithun’s Church Retford, with a return visit by Colin Walsh, the Organist Emeritus of Lincoln Cathedral – a title given to only the best and most outstanding of performers of organ music.

In recognition of this talent, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Music by Lincoln University in 2013. St Swithun’s is very fortunate in acquiring his services, but he enjoys playing the fine organ at the church such that when asked if he would be prepared to pay a second visit he replied: “You try and stop me!”

His programme will include well-known favourites such as a César Franck Chorale, movements from Symphonies by Vierne and Widor, The Swan by Saint-Saëns and the entire Suite Gothique by Boëllmann, all of which demonstrate his passion for French organ music of the 19th and 20th centuries.

As usual light lunches will be served from 12.15pm. Admission is free, but a retiring collection will be taken, the proceeds of which go into the fund for maintaining this beautiful instrument.

Recitals take place on the third Thursday of each month throughout the summer until October, so you will have plenty of opportunity to enjoy such delights, all of which are presented by the world’s top performers.
