Lunchtime Organ Music at St Swithun’s

by | 19 March 2023 | Music, Retford

Initial arrangements for lunchtime organ recitals at St Swithun’s Church on the third Thursday in each month have been completed, starting on Thursday 20th April with Colin Walsh, the Organist Emeritus of Lincoln Cathedral.

The Church is very fortunate in obtaining his services, because his fame is world-wide. On the other hand, he loves coming to Retford because he enjoys playing the St Swithun’s organ and appreciates the friendly mood of the audience!

Previous recitals have grown in popularity, with audiences numbering 50 to 60 – which is remarkable for a small town the size of Retford.

The organ was originally built in 1851 and increased in size in 1886, finally reaching its present state in 1981. It is undoubtedly a fine instrument and must be maintained in good playing condition for years to come.

Further details will be published each month in Retford Life, with recitals continuing until October.
