Lunchtime concerts at St Swithun’s

Organists swing into action again at St Swithun’s Church Retford after a cold and quiet winter!

Thursday 18th April sees a return of Michael Overbury at 1.00pm for another feast of music by famous composers, including Vierne, Bach, Fauré and Mendelssohn, lasting about an hour.

Light lunches will be available from 12.15pm onwards at a basic cost. Entry is free of charge, but it is hoped that you will contribute to a retiring collection towards the cost of the maintenance of the lovely organ.

The organ has survived unchanged since 1981, although the original instrument was installed in 1841 and has given great pleasure to many organists and audiences ever since. Donations that were given last year have enabled refurbishment of the pedal board and maintenance to keep the organ in good condition.

Although digital instruments have made great advances lately, there is nothing as thrilling as the sound of a real pipe organ, so book the times of the other top quality concerts on the third Thursday of each month throughout the summer.
