Supported Lodgings is a scheme which allows vulnerable 16 to 17-year-olds, children leaving a care setting and care-experienced young people, to live in a family home environment. The young person will pay rent for a room within the family home and will live as part of the family. The aim is to provide homes where the young people are supported to learn essential life skills as they transition to adulthood and move towards independent living.
The Supported Lodgings Providers support young people to learn essential skills such as cooking, cleaning, managing money and help to access education and employment. They are also there to provide advice and guidance as the young people transition from childhood to becoming an independent adult.
Living in a positive family environment is the best support available to care-experienced young people who often do not have families of their own to support them. Young people need a safe space to be able to make mistakes, to learn how to make positive choices and to have positive role models to support them in their decision making.
As a Supported Lodgings Provider, you would receive support, advice training and guidance including monthly supervision.
Personal and Home Safety Assessments would be completed. You would also be required to complete a DBS, references and health checks.
